New York Times best-selling author Sarah Scoles will be at the West Custer County Library to discuss the United States Nuclear Weapons Program. After the Cold War ended, nuclear weapons seemed to recede a bit into the background. But now, the U.S. is in the middle of a big effort to modernize its nuclear weapons, as are other countries. Scoles will talk about that program, the scientific and technological work going on at the nuclear laboratories spread around the West, the people doing that work, and how they think about their role in the world. She is a science journalist who’s lived full-time in Silver Cliff since 2022. She writes about how science and technology influence society, for publications like The New York Times, Scientific American, Wired magazine, and others. Before she was a journalist, she worked in public education at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory.
