November 2025
Looking for entertainment during your holiday travel? Grab your library card, download the Libby app, and browse a catalog of more than 25,000 audiobook titles for listening to while you’re on the road. We recommend the bestselling, award-winning, and family-friendly short novel Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. Follow 13-year-old Brian as he learns to survive alone in the Canadian wilderness with just his hatchet and resourcefulness. Then follow it up with the whole award-winning series, including The River and Brian’s Winter.
If wilderness survival sounds too intense, consider listening to hilarious “everyman” comedian Nate Bargatze read his recently-released book, Big Dumb Eyes. This instant bestseller is a “hilarious collection of personal stories, opinions, and confessions.”
Not sure how to download the Libby App? Make sure you get over to the one-and-only Tech Cafe for the month of December, on Thursday, Dec 11 from 10 am to 12 pm. (We’ve cancelled the Tech Cafe which always falls on the 4th Thursday of the month because, well, that’s Christmas Day.) Bring your smartphone, tablet, or laptop to get help from a real, live person with tech smarts!
It’s also time for the Spirit Campaign. As you consider donating to so many amazing charities in our community, we wanted to let you know that giving to the Library this year will go toward adding more outdoor gear, including snowshoes, to our Library of Things. We’re also planning an upgrade and redesign of the library space, to expand our quiet, private work areas. Your financial gifts will help us create that. AND we’ll be asking for your input on the redesign in the new year. Stay tuned.
Also coming up in the new year, the Adult Winter Reading program. A recently published study of 236,000 Americans has noted that between 2003 and 2023, the number of Americans who read for pleasure has steadily declined to an all-time low of just 16%. This is bad news because reading for fun is linked to all kinds of other benefits, like better quality sleep, reduced stress, boosted mood, increased empathy, and overall better mental health. The Adult Winter Reading program will be a fun way to start energizing your reading habit, with prizes for reading and a great selection of events. More information will be coming soon!
Another thing that’s linked to all kinds of well-being and mental health? Gratitude. Learn more about the art of appreciation just in time for Thanksgiving. Join Jaclyn Manzione and “Doc T” on Tuesday, November 25 at noon as they present “The Science of Thanks” in the Community Room. Meanwhile, we here at the library sure feel good when we think about how grateful we are for our patrons. Thank you for using your local library!
