October Bookends

Home Delivery Services

The nights are now longer than the days. What better time to settle down with a good book? But wait – what if you can’t get to the library to pick out a new read? Did you know that the library now offers home delivery of library materials to our mobility-impaired readers? Books, DVD’s, materials to read yourself or with your grandies. Or even our new Read With Me literacy kits, designed for an adult and a kid to enjoy reading together. All these and more can be delivered to your home if you are unable to get to the library. And thanks to a partnership with Wet Mountain Rotary Community Service (better known as the Rotary Van Service), we can also bring mobility-impaired residents to the library to enjoy our events and programs. Or to pick out their own reading material, like a real live copy of the Wall Street Journal, or one of our magazines.

Fill out an online application today and we’ll get back to you to arrange delivery or transport to the program of your choice. Or call us at 719/783-9138. And make sure to tell folks you know that we offer this service – word of mouth is the best advertising ever. (And see our ad the newspaper!)

Upcoming Events

Coffee & Doughnuts with Sheriff Rich Smith

Here are two upcoming programs that you don’t want to miss: Coffee and doughnuts with Sheriff Rich Smith on Tuesday, November 4 (Election Day) at 9:00 a.m. Tell Sheriff Smith what’s on your mind. This is one of our quarterly meet and greets with Sheriff Smith. (And don’t forget to VOTE, whether by mail or ballot – it’s one of the founding principles of our nation. Make your voice heard!)

Expert Help at Tech Café

New iPhone got you buffaloed? Your computer isn’t doing what you want it to do? Can’t get into your email? Bring yourself and your device to our twice-monthly Tech Cafe for expert help. Have a cup of coffee on us while getting yourself and your tech straightened out. Tech Cafe is every second and fourth Thursday of the month from 10 a.m. to noon in the Community Room, and is designed to help learners of all levels up their tech game. The next Tech Cafe dates are October 23 and November 13.

Halloween Reading Suggestions

Finally, it’s almost Halloween, so here are some spooky (and not so spooky) suggestions for finishing out the month.

Death in the Dark, by Bryce Moore

Ooohhh, a WWII Jack the Ripper? Tell me more! Or, how about an alternate WWII story with British witches! Young Lydia has to find the Grimorium Bellum, an ancient book that leaves a trail of death and destruction, before the Nazis do. Check out A Resistance of Witches by Morgan Ryan.

And not so spooky, here’s a cute picture book to share with a kid you like:

Aggie and the Ghost, by Matthew Forsythe

Aggie is not so lonely after she finds her house is haunted. Happy Halloween!
