Greetings!
The Wet Mountain Valley Community Foundation’s 2020 Spirit Campaign is currently underway, and especially critical to us this year. The headline for 2020 has been the COVID-19 pandemic. It is affecting everyone including your Library. Fortunately, we are blessed with an energetic and creative Library staff who have come up with “work arounds” to allow our Library to continue providing services to our community. During the stay-at-home phase, we provided books and movies for curbside pickup. Proudly, we were among the first libraries to reopen as soon as legally allowed.
The Friends of the Library Summer Craft Fair, one of our major fundraisers, was CANCELED due to COVID-19. The Friends of the Library provide a large part of the funds for books, programs, the library courier, and software, this leaves a big hole in the library budget.
Your Library provides books, magazines, and movies for checkout, along with our online resources like ebooks. We also provide free high speed broadband via public computers and wifi. In lieu of in-person programs for children and adults, we are providing take-home activity kits. With CARES Act, we ordered a number of “hotspots” which will enable families without internet in their homes to use internet devices safely at home.
Your financial support of your Library is more important now than ever to continuing our mission to “encourage lifelong learning and to provide resources to help people of all ages in their quest for knowledge, leisure, and problem solving, as well as to promote history, culture, and a free exchange of ideas among the diverse users of your Library.” Your help by donating to the Friends of the Library or directly to the West Custer County Library through the Spirit Campaign is greatly appreciated!
We are looking forward to the day when we can return to full use of the Library and Community Room for in-person library events, programs, computers, browsing and more!
With sincere gratitude,
